Initial Switch Design"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The basic switch components are drawn from <a href=\"https:\/\/volksswitch.org\/index.php\/volks-devices\/volksswitch-proof-of-concept\/version-3-introducing-the-flexure-spring\/\">Version 3 of the Volksswitch proof of concept<\/a>.\u00a0 This design differs by adding a shield plate and a tag plate in place of all the electronic components and wires.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s the design in exploded form:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volksswitch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/exploded-switch1.png?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2842\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volksswitch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/exploded-switch1.png?resize=525%2C338&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volksswitch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/exploded-switch1.png?w=636&amp;ssl=1 636w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volksswitch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/exploded-switch1.png?resize=300%2C193&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Aluminum foil or tape is attached to the underside of the round portion of the shield plate and the RFID tag is attached to the underside of the tag plate.<\/p>\n<p>There are four small platforms in the corners of the switch base.\u00a0 The arms of the shield plate rest on these platforms midway through depressing the activation surface and allow the tag plate to separate from the shield plate which is otherwise held in contact by gravity.<\/p>\n<p>The following video describes the assembly of the switch:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; just to prove the concept.\u00a0 Using gravity to hold the plates together is problematic in that it is easily defeated by bumping the switch or changing the orientation of the switch.\u00a0 It would be better to use some form of tension to hold the plates together and release or provide opposing tension to separate the plates when the activation surface is depressed.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Note: using the depression of the activation surface to &#8220;shield&#8221; the tag rather than &#8220;unshield&#8221; the tag would result in a simpler switch design.\u00a0 However, tying switch activation to hiding the tag would result in many more complications down the line.\u00a0 It would be a problem if every time the reader lost sight of the tag the downstream software interpreted it as a &#8220;positive&#8221;
