The Voice It is a simple DIY device.\u00a0 It reads the text stored on an RFID tag or encoded in a QR code (or barcode), then looks for an audio file on its SD card with the same name as the text that it read, and plays the file through an internal or external speaker.\u00a0 You control which objects have an RFID tag\/QR code\/barcode, and you control what’s contained in the audio file.<\/p>\n

For example, the\u00a0<\/span>Bliss Tactile Symbols<\/a>, by default, include an internal pocket that is<\/span>\u00a0just big enough to hold a simple RFID tag<\/a>.\u00a0 The Voice It comes with English and Spanish sound files for each of the 242 out-of-the-box Bliss Tactile Symbols.\u00a0 You can also attach an RFID tag to any physical object and encode that tag with text<\/a> using an inexpensive RFID tag writer<\/a>.\u00a0 The Voice It SD card can be removed, and additional audio files can be added using a PC.\u00a0 By default, the Voice It “talks” in English, but you can easily create an RFID-based language token to switch the language to Spanish or any other language you’ve put on the SD card.<\/p>\n

A similar story can be told where QR codes or barcodes are used instead of RFID tags.\u00a0 QR codes and barcodes can be produced for free and printed at almost no cost.\u00a0 They can also be used in close proximity to each other.\u00a0 This is more challenging with RFID tags, which can electrically interfere with one another.\u00a0 RFID tags have the advantage that they can be hidden from view and can still be read by the Voice It.<\/p>\n
