The keyguard designer can support you in creating a laser-cut keyguard. You simply follow the same process that you would in designing a 3D-printed keyguard, except that you select “Laser-Cut” as the “type of keyguard” in the “Keyguard Basics” section of the customizer. You then select “first layer for SVG/DXF file” from the “generate” pull-down list. Any raised features will be removed from your design along the way.
Once you “render” this single layer, you’ll have a 2D object that you can export as either an SVG or a DXF file. That file then becomes the input to your laser-cutting process.
You can use the “Engraved/Embossed Text” section of the Customizer to “associate” a set of engraving instructions with your file.
Text must be on the top surface, and the designer will ignore any value that you put in the “text depth” box. The individual performing the laser cutting will determine the depth that creates the best engraving.
It doesn’t make sense to talk about “engraving” a 2D object, so you won’t see any engraved text appear in the SVG or DXF file.
Instead, information about the text will be written to the Console pane. It’s basically the same information that you entered into the Customizer:
You can provide this information to the individual performing the laser cutting to help them choose and place the text where you envision it.
If you are having Keyguard AT laser-cut your keyguard, you can send them this information as a separate email message.
