Note that the Bliss Head design was taken directly from Eugene McDonald’s book Teaching and Using Blissymbolics.
The Bliss Head explorer can aid in the understanding of the concepts: “ear”, “eye”, “nose” and “mouth” concepts by positioning their symbols in locations like they would be found in life. It may also help them refine their tactile skills and their ability to spatially locate a part of the head.
The fact that the two “ear” pieces are mirror images of one another, may be a challenge for the student. You may be able to use the fact that their own ears are mirror images of each other to help the student understand this strange relationship.
The explorer comes in two sizes: standard and large. The raised symbols on the standard size puzzle match the size of the raised symbols on their corresponding Bliss Tactile Symbol. The large puzzle is 50% larger than the standard puzzle in all three dimensions. The larger puzzle may be easier to assemble for students with more limited motor control.
