Mounting with Velcro

As you make decisions and take measurements of your tablet and case, record those decisions/measurements in this form to make entering them into keyguard.scad easier.  Also, take a screenshot of the application running on the target tablet and keep that screenshot with the data form.  They will be very valuable to the person who will be printing the keyguard.

To add support for Velcro to your keyguard, you simply expand the “Mounting Method” category of options and then select “Velcro” in the pull-down list of titled”mount keyguard with” .  Then expand the “Velcro Info” category and select your Velcro size from the “velcro size” pull-down list. You can see a video of the process by clicking on the image below.  Note that the video focuses only on the mounting aspects of the keyguard.  For go here for instructions on how to accommodate the layout of the app and grid of tiles in your design.

Use the STL file you’ve produced to print the keyguard on your 3D printer.  It took our printer about 2 hours and 10 meters (about 60 cents) worth of PLA filament to produce the keyguard for an iPad Mini.

You’ll need four Velcro dots or squares (depending on what you selected) to attach the keyguard to your tablet.  You may need to use a Velcro strip to attach the Velcro hook or loop portion to the tablet in an effort to get more surface area for the adhesive.  Velcro adhesives don’t stick very well to glass so if you use a small section of Velcro on the tablet it may pull off when you pull off your keyguard.

The video below shows how to install the Velcro:
