So, you’d like to secure a switch to a solid surface but you don’t want to drill holes in it. Maybe you want the freedom to move the switch around and putting down Velcro each time is too restrictive or you just don’t like the adhesive residue that it’s likely to leave behind.
This design uses a suction cup to hold the switch in place. This is one possible solution. We don’t claim it’s the best solution or even a great solution – but it works.
The Suction Cup
It starts with a high quality suction cup. We’ve tried several and these FrogsFeet Suction Cup Hooks are the best we found and this device is designed specifically to fit these suction cups. You get a package of 4 suction cups for $9.99 or about $2.50 per cup. Like all suction cups they have to be applied to a smooth, non-porous surface. A laminated table or desk is perfect.
The suction cups come with metal hooks that must be removed by using a pair of pliers:
There’s also a thin tab – intended to help release the suction – but it just gets in the way so you should cut it off with a pair of scissors:
The Other Components
There are three, 3D printed components. You can obtain them by going to Printables.
